Shir Hever
About
Shir Hever is a political economist and independent researcher born in Jerusalem and now based in Germany, after giving up his Israeli citizenship. He is managing director of the Alliance for Justice between Israelis and Palestinians, a member of Jewish Voice for a Just Peace, and a former coordinator of the military embargo campaign for the Boycott National Committee (BNC). His research focuses on the economic aspects of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory, the privatization of security, the global and Israeli arms trade, and what he terms the genocide in Gaza. Hever publicly supports the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign and has argued in interviews that people "should engage in boycott campaigns" as part of escalating nonviolent pressure on Israel. His descriptions of Israel as an apartheid regime and of Israeli actions in Gaza as genocide place him among a significant current of Jewish dissent in which Jewish scholars and activists use international law and political economy frameworks to criticize Israeli state policies and advocate for Palestinian rights.
