Rabbi Yosef Leib

Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld was a prominent anti-Zionist rabbi and co-founder of the Edah HaChareidis, the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community of Jerusalem during the British Mandate of Palestine. Known for his vehement opposition to Zionism, he referred to its proponents as 'evil men and ruffians' and collaborated with figures like Dr. Jacob Israël de Haan to secure a peaceful agreement with Arab nationalist leaders. As a key leader of the Hungarian Kollel Shomrei HaChomos and Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem, he worked to preserve Orthodox Jewish autonomy against Zionist influences.
