Moshé Machover

Moshe Machover is a mathematician, philosopher, and socialist activist who co-founded the Israeli Socialist Organization (Matzpen) in 1962. Born in Tel Aviv in 1936, he received his early political education in Hashomer Hatzair before becoming disillusioned with the combination of Zionism and Marxism. Machover is the last surviving founding member of Matzpen, which promoted an internationalist socialist vision and self-determination for all peoples, leading to its principled anti-Zionist position. Machover has been active in socialist politics for over six decades, writing extensively on Middle-Eastern politics and the nature of Zionism as a settler-colonial project. He has been a vocal critic of Israeli apartheid and state violence, calling for the overthrow of the Zionist regime as the only path to justice for Palestinians. His academic career included positions at Hebrew University Jerusalem, University of Bristol, and King's College London, where he was Reader in Mathematical Logic from 1973 to 1995.
