Mike Cushman
About
Mike Cushman is a British Jewish organiser and writer associated with Jewish Voice for Labour and Jewish Voice for Liberation. In public talks and media appearances, including a 2024 Al Jazeera English video, he describes helping organise Jewish participation in London protests against Israel’s war on Gaza and British arms sales to Israel, and speaks about his Jewish identity and his explicit rejection of Zionism. In his “Jewish Journeys from Zionism” account for Jewish Voice for Labour, he reflects on his trajectory from earlier support for Israel to involvement in solidarity work with Palestinians, including travel to the West Bank and Gaza. Within Jewish Voice for Liberation, Cushman has introduced motions and statements calling for measures such as ending UK arms sales to Israel and imposing broad economic sanctions in response to what he describes as genocide in Gaza, annexation, occupation, apartheid, and other Israeli state policies. He has also written for platforms like Free Speech on Israel, where he addresses the relationship between criticism of Israel and allegations of antisemitism, situating his arguments within debates on human rights, international law, and the distinctions between Jewish identity, Israeli nationality and Zionist ideology.
