Jill Stein

Jill Stein is an American physician, environmental activist, and politician best known as the Green Party’s presidential nominee in 2012, 2016, and 2024. Born in Chicago to Russian Jewish immigrants, she trained as a medical doctor at Harvard and became active in public health advocacy, environmental protection, and grassroots political reform. Her early political work focused on air‑quality standards, coal plant regulation, and community health initiatives. Stein has been a prominent progressive voice on issues including climate justice, demilitarisation, universal healthcare, and social equity. She has also been outspoken on U.S. foreign policy, including strong criticism of U.S. support for Israeli military actions and public support for Palestinian human rights. Her Jewish background and long‑standing anti‑war positions inform her critique of state violence and her calls for accountability under international law. Stein’s positions on Israel and the Palestinians have been a focal point of her political career. The Green Party does not recognize Israel as a Jewish state but a secular democracy that acknowledges the rights of all residents, including the right of return for Palestinians displaced during the Nakba of 1948. Stein has also expressed support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
