Iddo Elam

Iddo Elam is an Israeli Jewish conscientious objector, musician, and political activist whose refusal to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces brought him national and international attention. Based in Tel Aviv, he has become a prominent voice among a new generation of Israeli youth rejecting military service on ethical and political grounds. His activism includes public statements opposing the occupation, participation in anti‑war demonstrations, and organizing within left‑wing youth movements. Elam serves as the secretary of the Young Communist League in Tel Aviv and is active in Hadash, where he works to build youth‑led resistance to militarism and state violence. His imprisonment for refusing conscription, along with his continued public advocacy, has positioned him as a central figure in Israel’s contemporary conscientious‑objector movement.
