Avigail Abarbanel

Avigail Abarbanel is an Israeli‑born psychotherapist, writer, and editor who grew up in a deeply Zionist environment in Bat Yam. She left Israel in 1991 and renounced her Israeli citizenship in 2001 in protest at the start of the Second Intifada. She describes this as the start of a personal and political journey away from Zionist indoctrination and toward solidarity with Palestinians. Abarbanel identifies explicitly as an anti‑Zionist and has written extensively about Israeli settler‑colonialism, the psychological roots of Zionism, and the structural nature of Israeli state violence. She is a frequent contributor to The Electronic Intifada and Mondoweiss, and her work argues that Zionism is inseparable from dispossession and oppression. She supports the BDS movement as a non‑violent tool for Palestinian liberation and writes about genocide, apartheid, and trauma in the context of Israel/Palestine.
