Australian Jewish Democratic Society

The Australian Jewish Democratic Society (AJDS) is a Melbourne‑based, secular Jewish organisation founded in 1984. It brings together members of the Jewish community engaged in social justice, anti‑racism, refugee solidarity, environmental issues, and democratic participation. The organisation publishes statements, newsletters, and analysis, and participates in educational and community campaigns. AJDS is one of the longest‑standing Jewish groups in Australia publicly critical of Israeli state policy. Its statements address Israeli occupation, apartheid frameworks, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza, including calls for the Australian government to take strong action in response to Israeli military operations. The organisation also collaborates with groups such as APAN and supports recognition of the State of Palestine.
