Aaron Maté

Aaron Maté is a Canadian journalist and political commentator known for his reporting on Israel‑Palestine, US foreign policy, and media accountability. Born into a Jewish family, he became publicly active in pro‑Palestinian organising as a student and has continued to foreground Palestinian rights throughout his career. His work spans Democracy Now!, The Real News Network, Vice, Al Jazeera, The Nation, and his current reporting for The Grayzone. Maté’s dissent is rooted in a long record of challenging Israeli state violence and exposing the political uses of antisemitism. He has described Israel as a “Jewish supremacist state” and a “death cult,” compared its policies to historical atrocities, and stated he will “never condemn people who resist.” He has also spoken extensively about Gaza, genocide allegations, and the weaponisation of identity in suppressing Jewish dissent. His activism dates back to his leadership in pro‑Palestinian student organising at Concordia University, where he faced threats and arrest for opposing Israeli policies.
